In our walk of faith, we are often reminded of the importance of perseverance and readiness. The Apostle Paul, near the end of his life, declared with confidence, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). This declaration serves as a powerful reminder to us all about the journey of faith we are called to undertake. Every day presents challenges, distractions, and opportunities that test our resolve and commitment to the Lord.

In the Parable of the Ten Virgins found in Matthew 25:1–13, Jesus teaches us the critical importance of being wise and prepared. Five of the virgins were wise; they brought extra oil for their lamps, ensuring that they were ready to meet the bridegroom. The other five were foolish, neglecting to prepare, and when the moment arrived, they found themselves unready and excluded. This parable echoes Paul’s message in 2 Timothy. Both emphasize the necessity of vigilance and faithfulness in our spiritual lives.

Fighting the good fight means engaging actively in our spiritual preparation. Just as the wise virgins kept their lamps trimmed and filled with oil, we too must ensure that our faith is alive and vibrant. We cannot afford to be complacent or distracted by the world around us. The oil in our lamps symbolizes the Holy Spirit, the grace of God, and our commitment to living out our faith daily. Are we cultivating our relationship with Christ? Are we spending time in prayer, in His Word, and engaging in fellowship with other believers?

Paul’s race was not merely a sprint; it was a marathon filled with obstacles, trials, and moments of doubt. Yet, he finished strong, keeping his eyes on the prize. Similarly, we are called to run our race with endurance, reflecting the wisdom of the five virgins who anticipated the need for preparation. Let us ask ourselves: are we living with the urgency of Christ’s return? Are we investing in our spiritual growth, so that when the day comes, we can stand before Him with confidence, declaring that we have fought the good fight and finished our race?

Today, let us commit to being wise stewards of our faith. Let us fill our lamps with the oil of the Holy Spirit, ensuring we are prepared for the return of our Savior.
