In the closing verses of the Bible, we find a beautiful invitation: "And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely." (Revelation 22:17). This invitation resonates deeply with the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 25:1–13, where He tells the parable of the ten virgins.

In this parable, ten virgins await the bridegroom to join a wedding feast, symbolizing the anticipation of Christ's return. Five of them are wise, having brought extra oil for their lamps; the other five are foolish, unprepared for the delay. When the bridegroom arrives at an unexpected hour, only those with oil are able to enter the wedding feast, while the others are left outside, knocking in vain.

Both Revelation 22:17 and the parable of the ten virgins speak to the same profound truth: the importance of readiness and the gracious invitation to partake in the blessings of God. The Spirit invites all who hear to come and drink from the well of life. Yet, this invitation also carries with it a call to preparation.

As believers, we are encouraged to be like the wise virgins, who not only hear the call but also act upon it with diligence. They understood the significance of having oil in their lamps; they were aware that the bridegroom could arrive at any moment. In our spiritual lives, the oil symbolizes the Holy Spirit, our faith, and the good works that illuminate our path.

The bridegroom’s delay teaches us patience and perseverance, reminding us that the Christian journey is not just about the destination but also how we prepare and wait for it. Each day we are invited to fill our lamps with the oil of His presence, to deepen our relationship with Him, and to share the invitation with others.

As the Spirit calls, we must respond with urgency—inviting others to come and drink freely from the water of life. Are we living in such a way that reflects the readiness of the wise virgins? Are we nurturing our faith, allowing the Holy Spirit to fill us, and shining brightly in a world that desperately needs the light of Christ?

Today, let us reflect on the invitation we have received and how we can prepare ourselves and others for His coming.

**Self-Assessment Questions:**

1. Am I actively nurturing my relationship with God to ensure my lamp is filled with oil?

2. How can I be more intentional in sharing the invitation to come and drink from the water of life with others?

3. In what areas of my life do I feel unprepared for Christ’s return, and how can I address these areas today?
