As we navigate through life, it is vital to recognize that God has equipped us with everything we need to live a life of purpose, righteousness, and faith. In 2 Peter 1:3, we are reminded, “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.” This profound truth provides us with both comfort and responsibility.

In the Parable of the Ten Virgins found in Matthew 25:1–13, Jesus imparts wisdom about preparedness and vigilance. The ten virgins, awaiting the bridegroom, represent all of us in our journey of faith. Five were wise, and five were foolish. The wise virgins brought extra oil for their lamps, ensuring they were ready for the unexpected delay of the bridegroom. In contrast, the foolish did not prepare adequately and were left outside when the door was shut.

This parable beautifully connects to Peter's teaching. God has granted us “all things that pertain unto life and godliness,” which includes the wisdom and foresight to prepare for the unexpected moments in our spiritual journey. Just as the wise virgins understood the importance of having extra oil, we too must cultivate our relationship with Christ, deepen our knowledge of Him, and actively engage in spiritual practices that sustain us.

What does it mean to be wise in our faith? It means living with intention, being proactive in our spiritual growth, and being prepared for the return of our Savior. The oil in our lamps symbolizes the Holy Spirit, the Word of God, and the good works we are called to do. By investing time in prayer, studying scripture, and serving others, we fill our lamps with the oil that will keep our faith burning brightly, even in the darkest of times.

As we reflect on these truths, let us ask ourselves:

- Are we actively cultivating our relationship with Jesus, or are we relying on past experiences to sustain us?

- What practices are we putting in place to ensure our spiritual readiness for His return?

- In what areas of our lives do we need to seek God’s divine power to equip us for godliness?

Let us strive to be like the wise virgins, fully prepared and eagerly awaiting the bridegroom. With the divine power He has granted us, we can live lives marked by glory and virtue, shining brightly in a world that desperately needs the light of Christ. May we always be ready, with our lamps filled and our hearts steadfast, as we await His glorious return.
