In a world filled with uncertainty and darkness, we are reminded of the profound truth found in Revelation 21:23: "And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof." This verse paints a beautiful picture of the eternal city, where God’s glory illuminates every corner, and His presence banishes all darkness. It serves as a powerful reminder that true light comes not from external sources, but from our relationship with God through Jesus Christ, the Lamb.

As we reflect on this divine illumination, we must also consider the Parable of the Ten Virgins found in Matthew 25:1–13. In this parable, Jesus teaches us about the importance of being prepared and wise. The ten virgins, waiting for the bridegroom, symbolize the Church, and their lamps represent our faith and readiness for Christ's return. Five were wise, having brought extra oil, while five were foolish, lacking the necessary preparation.

Just as the city in Revelation shines with the glory of God, our lives are meant to reflect His light in a world that desperately needs it. The wise virgins were prepared for the bridegroom’s arrival, illustrating the importance of cultivating our relationship with God and being filled with the Holy Spirit, represented by the oil in their lamps. Without this preparation, we risk being left in darkness when the call comes.

In our daily lives, how often do we check our lamps? Are we filling them with the oil of prayer, scripture, and fellowship? Are we attentive to the leading of the Holy Spirit, ensuring that our lives shine brightly in anticipation of Christ's return? Just as the glory of God lit the city, our lives should reflect that same glory to those around us.

Let us not be caught unprepared. Instead, let us strive to be wise, filling our hearts with the richness of God's Word and the power of His presence. When we do, we will not only be ready for the coming of the Bridegroom but will also illuminate the path for others who are searching for light in the darkness.
