He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved. (Psalm 62:2)
In a world filled with uncertainty and shifting circumstances, it is vital to anchor ourselves in the steadfastness of our Lord. Psalm 62:2 reminds us that God is our rock, our salvation, and our defense. He is the unwavering source of strength and security that we can rely on, no matter the storms that may rage around us.
As we reflect on this verse, we can draw parallels to the parable of the ten virgins in Matthew 25:1–13. In this story, Jesus speaks about the importance of being prepared for His coming. Five of the virgins were wise and took extra oil for their lamps, while the other five were foolish, neglecting to prepare adequately. When the bridegroom arrived, only the wise virgins were ready to enter the wedding feast, while the foolish ones were left outside in the darkness.
Just as the wise virgins prepared their lamps with oil, we too must prepare our hearts and lives to meet our Savior. Our preparation involves placing our trust in Jesus as our rock and salvation. He is our defense against the trials and tribulations of life, and if we rely on Him, we will not be greatly moved when challenges arise.
In times of turmoil, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and shaken. However, Jesus teaches us through this parable that wisdom lies in being proactive rather than reactive. The wise virgins did not wait until the last moment to gather their oil; they took the initiative to ensure they were prepared. Similarly, we must cultivate our relationship with Christ daily, filling our spiritual lamps with the oil of faith, prayer, and the Word of God.
As we depend on Jesus as our defense, we must also ask ourselves: Are we being wise with our spiritual preparation? Are we investing time in prayer and scripture, ensuring we have enough oil for our lamps? When the unexpected comes, will we be ready to face it with confidence, knowing that our rock is firm beneath our feet?
Today, let us commit to being like the wise virgins. Let us fill our lamps with the oil of faith and trust in God, so when the moments of testing come, we can stand firm, assured that He is our rock and salvation, and we shall not be greatly moved.
