In the stillness of the night, a voice calls for the faithful. It is a beckoning that resonates through the ages, reminding us of the promise that “whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). Yet, this assurance comes with a call to readiness, a theme echoed in the Parable of the Ten Virgins found in Matthew 25:1–13.
In this parable, ten virgins await the arrival of the bridegroom, their lamps prepared for the night ahead. Five are wise, having brought extra oil, while five are foolish, relying solely on their initial supply. When the bridegroom arrives, the wise are ready, and they enter the wedding feast. The foolish, however, find their lamps extinguished and are unprepared, left outside in the darkness. This vivid illustration serves as a poignant reminder that while salvation is offered freely to all, our readiness to receive it is vital.
