In a world that often measures success by wealth, status, or achievements, God invites us to find our true glory in knowing Him. Jeremiah 9:24 reminds us that the ultimate source of pride lies not in our earthly accomplishments, but in our understanding of the Lord and His nature. He is a God who delights in lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness. This profound truth invites us to reflect on our relationship with Him, especially as we consider the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 25:1–13, the Parable of the Ten Virgins.
In this parable, Jesus presents a vivid picture of preparedness and wisdom. Ten virgins took their lamps to meet the bridegroom, but only five were wise enough to bring extra oil. When the bridegroom arrived, the five foolish virgins were unprepared and missed their opportunity to enter the wedding feast. The wise virgins, however, were rewarded for their foresight and diligence. This story speaks to us of the importance of being spiritually prepared and deeply connected to the Lord.
Just as the wise virgins knew they needed extra oil to sustain their lamps, we must cultivate a relationship with God that allows us to understand His lovingkindness and righteousness. In knowing Him, we are filled with the oil of His Spirit, which lights our path and guides us in times of darkness. To glory in knowing the Lord means embracing His character and allowing that knowledge to transform us.
As we navigate our daily lives, let us assess whether we are filling our lamps with the oil of spiritual understanding. Are we spending time in prayer and studying His Word? Are we seeking to understand His lovingkindness, which empowers us to show love to others? Are we living in judgment and righteousness, reflecting His character in our actions?
The wise virgins did not simply prepare for a moment; they prepared for an encounter with the bridegroom. In the same way, we must prepare for our encounters with God in our daily lives. Each moment is an opportunity to draw closer to Him, to understand His ways, and to reflect His glory in our actions.
Let us be diligent in our pursuit of knowing the Lord. He delights in lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, and as we embody these qualities, we become a light to the world. May our lamps be filled to overflowing, ready for the day when we meet our Savior.
