In our journey of faith, it is easy to become weary in doing good. Life presents myriad challenges that can drain our energy and enthusiasm. Yet, the Apostle Paul encourages us in Galatians 6:9, saying, "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." This promise is not just a call to action but a reminder of the rewards that await those who remain steadfast in their efforts.
In Matthew 25:1–13, Jesus shares the Parable of the Ten Virgins, a story that teaches us the importance of being prepared and wise. Ten virgins took their lamps to meet the bridegroom, but only five were wise enough to bring extra oil. When the bridegroom arrived unexpectedly, the unprepared virgins were left behind, unable to enter the wedding feast. This parable beautifully illustrates the intersection of patience, preparation, and perseverance in our spiritual lives.
Just as the wise virgins prepared for the bridegroom's coming, we are called to prepare for the opportunities to do good that God places before us. Our "oil" represents the spiritual preparation and good deeds we accumulate through our relationship with Christ. The world may tempt us to grow weary, but the promise of reaping a harvest is a powerful incentive to remain diligent. When we act out of love and faith, we are filling our lamps with oil, ensuring we are ready when the moment of divine opportunity arises.
Both Galatians 6:9 and the Parable of the Ten Virgins remind us that our actions matter. We may not see immediate results from our good deeds, but God is faithful. He sees our efforts and knows our hearts. In due season, we will reap a harvest of blessings—whether in this life or the next.
As we reflect on these teachings, let us consider how we can be wise and diligent in our daily lives. Are we investing our time and resources into things that will last? Are we nurturing our spiritual lives so that we can shine brightly in a world that desperately needs hope?
Today, let us recommit ourselves to good works, knowing that we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Let us be like the wise virgins, prepared and ready for the moments God presents us to spread His love and light.
