In our daily lives, we often encounter challenges that test our faith and resolve. The Apostle Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6:11 to "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." This call to arm ourselves spiritually is not merely a suggestion; it is a divine imperative. Just as a soldier prepares for battle, we must equip ourselves with the tools necessary to withstand the assaults of darkness.

In Matthew 25:1-13, Jesus tells the Parable of the Ten Virgins, illustrating the importance of being wise and prepared for the coming of the Bridegroom. The five wise virgins carried extra oil for their lamps, while the foolish ones did not. When the announcement came that the Bridegroom was approaching, only those who were prepared could enter the wedding feast. This parable powerfully echoes the call to don the whole armour of God.

The wise virgins' preparation with oil symbolizes the spiritual readiness that comes from a life anchored in Christ. Just as they filled their lamps, we must fill our hearts with faith, prayer, and the Word of God. The devil seeks to distract us, to lead us into complacency, and to rob us of our readiness. Without the spiritual armour and the oil of wisdom, we risk being caught off guard, unprepared for the trials that come our way.

The armour of God comprises truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God—each piece vital to our spiritual protection and preparedness. As we don this armour daily, we equip ourselves to stand firm against temptation, doubt, and fear. The oil of wisdom, cultivated through prayer and a relationship with Christ, illuminates our path and keeps us alert to His calling.

In a world full of distractions and uncertainty, we must be like the wise virgins, vigilant and prepared. Are we filling our lamps with oil? Are we putting on the whole armour of God? When the day of trial comes, we want to be found ready, standing firm in our faith, and shining brightly for all to see.

As you reflect on your own spiritual journey, consider these questions:

1. What practices can I incorporate into my daily routine to ensure I am spiritually prepared?

2. Am I actively engaging in prayer and scripture reading to fill my lamp with oil?

3. How can I strengthen my faith to better withstand the wiles of the devil?

4. In what areas of my life do I need to put on more of God’s armour?

Let us strive to be wise, equipped, and ready, so that when the call comes, we can boldly enter into the presence of our Lord.
