In our journey of faith, we often find ourselves in need of encouragement, accountability, and wisdom. Proverbs 27:17 tells us, "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend." This profound truth emphasizes the importance of relationships and the mutual growth we experience when we engage with one another. Just as iron sharpens iron, our interactions can refine our character, deepen our understanding, and prepare us for the tasks God has set before us.
In Matthew 25:1–13, the Parable of the Ten Virgins, Jesus illustrates the importance of being wise and prepared. The five wise virgins took extra oil for their lamps, while the foolish virgins did not. When the bridegroom arrived, the wise were ready, and the foolish were left behind. This parable reveals not only the necessity of personal preparedness but also highlights the significance of sharing wisdom and resources with one another.
As we sharpen one another, we are called to help our friends be ready for the coming of the Lord. Like the wise virgins, we must not only focus on our own readiness but also encourage those around us to fill their lamps with oil. This divine wisdom is not meant to be hoarded; it is meant to be shared. By engaging in meaningful discussions, praying together, and holding each other accountable, we can ensure that we are all prepared for the day of Christ’s return.
Consider the relationships in your life. Are you surrounding yourself with those who encourage you to be wise and prepared? Are you, in turn, being a source of wisdom and support for others? The act of sharpening one another requires vulnerability and honesty. It means sharing our struggles, our insights, and our encouragement. It is in these moments of connection that we grow, both individually and as a community of faith.
Let us be intentional about our friendships and relationships. Let us seek to uplift and sharpen one another as we await the coming of our Savior. Just as the wise virgins had extra oil to share, let’s be generous with our wisdom and encouragement. In doing so, we not only prepare ourselves but also help to prepare others for the glorious day when the bridegroom returns.
As you reflect on this message, consider the following self-assessment questions:
1. Who in my life is sharpening me spiritually? How can I engage more with them?
2. Am I being a wise friend by sharing my insights and encouragement with others?
3. In what ways can I prepare myself and those around me for Christ’s return?
May we all strive to be wise and ready, supporting one another as we walk in faith together.
