In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, we often forget the importance of preparation, especially when it comes to our relationship with God. In 2 Chronicles 7:14, the Lord calls His people to a profound act of humility and repentance: "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." This verse is a divine invitation to return to our Creator, to seek His presence earnestly, and to be restored in our hearts and communities.
This call to humility and prayer resonates deeply with the parable of the ten virgins in Matthew 25:1–13. Here, Jesus illustrates the importance of being prepared for His return. Five of the virgins were wise; they brought extra oil for their lamps, while the foolish ones did not. When the bridegroom arrived, the wise were ready to enter the wedding feast, but the foolish were left outside because they were unprepared.
Just as the virgins needed oil to keep their lamps burning, we need the oil of prayer, humility, and repentance to keep our spiritual lives vibrant. The oil represents the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives, guiding us, filling us, and empowering us to be the light in a dark world. When we humble ourselves and turn from our wicked ways, we are essentially filling our lamps with oil, ensuring we are ready for the Lord’s return.
In this season of waiting and preparation, let us not be like the foolish virgins who neglected their readiness. Instead, let us heed the call of 2 Chronicles 7:14. We must humble ourselves before God, seek His face through prayer, and turn away from anything that hinders our relationship with Him. As we do this, we can trust that He will hear us, forgive our sins, and bring healing to our lives and our lands.
